Biography

Linda Martin Alcoff is Professor of Philosophy and Women’s Studies at Hunter College and the CUNY Graduate Center, and Visiting Research Professor at Australian Catholic University. Linda’s pedagogy and writing focus on the politics of epistemology, gender and race identity, sexual violence, Latino issues and decolonizing knowledge. She has served as President of the American Philosophical Association from 2012-13 and as Co-director of the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy from 1997-99. 

 Linda previously taught at Syracuse University, SUNY Stony Brook and Kalamazoo College and has held visiting appointments at Cornell University, Brown University, Florida Atlantic University and the University of Aarhus. She is author of The Future of Whiteness(2015), Visible Identities: Race, Gender and the Self (2006) and Real Knowing: New Versions of the Coherence Theory (1996), and co-author of Women’s Choices, Women’s Realities (2005). Linda has also edited or co-edited several books, including Feminist Epistemologies (1993), Thinking from the Underside of History (2000), Epistemology: The Big Questions (1998) and Identity Politics Reconsidered (2006). Linda has been co-editor of Hypathia: A Journal of Feminist Philosophy and is currently working on a book on sexual violence and another on decolonizing epistemology.
